Sports Funding

The government will provide substantial funding for primary school sport. The funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health, and Culture, Media and Sport, with the money going directly to primary school head teachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.

Schools must spend the Sports funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but have the freedom to choose how they do this.

Staff at Green Gates recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of our children. In addition, we recognise that an outstanding PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude, and academic achievement of children.

Green Gates Sports Camps (Holiday clubs) aim to provide our pupils with a range of sporting experiences that they wouldn’t necessarily have in school. For instance, last year, pupils were able to go Kayaking and White Water Rafting at the Tees Barrage.

We want to ensure that our pupils are able to access the best quality resources and by providing a sports camp during the holidays we are also able to support our pupils and their families, as well as encourage a healthy lifestyle.

Last year the majority of the pupils experienced Outdoor Learning experiences and we are extending that this year so that all of the pupils will have regular visits and experiences. We are also funding for one of the teachers to become a Forest School Leader.

Similarly, we want our KS1 pupils and lower KS2 pupils to have more access to the outside areas at school and to this end, we are altering some of the outside spaces so that there is easier access and more activities, such as gardening, available.

The School Council will be encouraged to talk about what they believe is important in school and how they would like the money spent. This year, so far, they have asked for seating around the football pitches and a Friendship bench. KS1 children have requested somewhere for their own playground – all of the suggestions so far have been acted on.
